Horseback Game Viewing
Mafigeni invites you to stalk wildebeest, sneak up on giraffe or scatter an impala herd as we walk, trot and canter along game trails in pristine Bushveld. For the more adventurous rider, pop over a log or track Rhino. Either way, you’re in for an adventure on horseback!
Where we Are:
Mafigeni stables are situated in the Makutsi Conservancy, just 40 minutes from the renowned Kruger National Park. Our riding trails stretch over large areas of privately owned and managed Bushveld, with stunning views of the Drakensburg Mountains. Riders may encounter over 20 plains game species, 3 of the Big Five (Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino) as well as 356 bird species.
What we Offer
All our rides are guided by an experienced riding guide. Come and enjoy dawn or dusk rides that vary from one to four hours and during full moon, we offer exhilarating moonlight rides. One hour rides are offered to our beginner riders while our more experienced/riding fit guests will enjoy longer rides. The riding pace is determined by the riding skills of the guest.
The Horses
Mafigeni owns a number of well schooled horses that are suitable for all levels of riding ability, including first time riders and children. For the more experienced riding guest, we have forward moving/spirited horses, for a more exciting ride. All the horses are trained in the classical English style to give a responsive Ride. Guests may choose to ride in comfortable trail rider saddles, Western Saddles or English General Purpose saddles.
We regret, no riders over 100kgs.
Safari Trails
Ø Per Hour (max 2.5hrs).
Enjoy a short, but fun ride around the Bushveld at a time that is suitable to you.
Ø Moonlight Ride (Only during full moon.)
For a unique experience, join us on an exhilarating night ride or add a little romance with a glass of champagne as you watch the moon rise.
Ø Half-day Ride (incl. Breakfast)
Depart at dawn for a 2 hour ride in the Bushveld. Take a break for a well-deserved breakfast before mounting up for more Bushveld adventure! Minimum of 3 hours in the saddle.
Ø Half-day Ride (incl. Lunch)
Mount at 8am to enjoy a long ride covering a vast distance of the Bushveld. Arrive back at the Lodge at 12pm for a well deserved lunch.
Ø Weekend Rides (Friday - Sunday)
The ultimate safari getaway! Join us for a minimum of 9 hours in the saddle!
Friday- your arrival day includes a sunset ride of approximately 2 hours. This evening, enjoy a 3 course meal and overnight at the Lodge.
Saturday – after morning coffee and rusks, head out to the stables for a bit of Bushveld adventure. Enjoy a hearty lunch and relax beside the pool for a few hours, before mounting up and heading out for a few more hours of game encounters. This evening enjoy sundowners at the bar before a delicious meal in the Boma.
Sunday – sleep in or go for an early morning hack along game trails. Depart after lunch.
This weekend getaway allows guests to experience close encounters with various game species, as well as interact with the Mafigeni horses and learn skills of good horsemanship. During full moon, we will include a moonlight ride. The rate includes 3 meals per day and a minimum of 4 morning/afternoon rides.
